JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing client relationships, and promoting instrumentation, control panel, and automation solutions to municipal, industrial, and commercial clients. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, sales acumen, and customer relationship management skills to support revenue growth and client satisfaction.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, project management, and inside sales teams to provide technical solutions tailored to customer requirements while ensuring a high level of professional service.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Sales Development & Business Growth
• Identify and develop new business opportunities within the water, wastewater, and industrial automation sectors.
• Conduct regular client visits to municipal, industrial, and commercial facilities to establish and maintain strong customer relationships.
• Generate leads, qualify opportunities, and actively pursue new accounts to achieve sales targets and business objectives.
• Prepare and deliver technical proposals, quotations, and presentations tailored to client requirements.
• Conduct follow-ups on proposals, negotiate commercial terms, and support contract finalization activities.
• Maintain regular communication with existing customers to identify additional business opportunities and ensure customer satisfaction.
Technical Sales & Customer Consultation
• Provide technical guidance and product recommendations related to instrumentation, PLC/SCADA systems, control panels, VFDs, flow meters, level sensors, and automation solutions.
• Collaborate with clients to understand operational requirements and recommend effective automation and control system solutions.
• Coordinate with engineering and technical teams to develop customized solutions based on project specifications and client needs.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies related to industrial automation and water/wastewater systems.
• Support clients with technical clarifications and assist in resolving product or application-related concerns.
Market Development & Networking
• Attend trade shows, conferences, industry events, and networking activities to promote company solutions and strengthen industry relationships.
• Conduct market research to identify industry trends, competitive activities, and potential customer opportunities.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with consultants, contractors, municipalities, and industrial clients.
• Represent the company professionally in all client interactions and industry engagements.
Internal Coordination & Reporting
• Work closely with inside sales, engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure smooth project coordination and customer support.
• Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, sales activities, quotations, and project updates within CRM systems.
• Prepare periodic sales reports, forecasts, and business development updates for management review.
• Ensure timely communication of customer requirements, project updates, and market intelligence to internal stakeholders.
THE ROLE:
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Instrumentation, or a related technical field preferred.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in outside sales, technical sales, or business development within industrial automation, instrumentation, or control systems.
• Previous experience in the water and wastewater industry is considered a strong asset.
• Strong technical knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA systems, industrial instrumentation, VFDs, and control panel systems.
• Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and problem-solving abilities.
• Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently in a target-driven environment.
• Willingness to travel for client meetings, site visits, and industry events as required.
